Professor Richter, an astronomer, is murdered while observing a star called "The White Dwarf". The Ministry of Science, however. refuse to allow his assistant, Cartwright, to reveal the news of Richter's death. Steed tells Cathy that Richter believed The White Dwarf is heading straight for our solar system, and will destroy the Earth.
